You Don’t Have to Be Spiritual — Just Curious
“I’m Not Spiritual… But This Changed Everything”
There’s a moment that happens a lot in my work.
Someone walks into my space and says something like:
“I’m not spiritual.”
“I don’t really believe in this stuff.”
“I’m probably going to talk the whole time.”
“I might laugh.”
“I might hate it.”
And I always smile. Because none of that matters.
Recently, a very close friend of mine came in for a session. She’s practical, grounded, logical. She doesn’t see herself as “spiritual” at all, and she’s always been honest about that. Not in a disrespectful way. Just in a very human, very real way.
She was also in a lot of pain. Her back had been tight and sore for weeks. And I gently said, “Come and just receive. No big session. No deep conversations. No expectations. Just lie down and let me offer you a sonic massage.”
She hesitated.
She laughed.
She said she’d probably hate it.
But she came anyway.
You Don’t Have to Believe in Anything, just trust
For this session, I didn’t do anything “extra.”
No long intake.
No big story.
No emotional processing.
A big hug and simply lay down on the table.
I used my tuning forks and sound tools directly on and around the areas of tension on her body and especially her back.
This is what one would call a sonic massage.
It’s very physical.
Very nervous-system based.
Very grounded.
And within ten minutes… she was asleep.
Not the polite, half-awake kind.
The deep, full-body rest that happens when your system finally feels safe enough to let go.
Your Body Knows Before Your Mind Does
Before the session, she told me she’d probably talk the whole time.
Or giggle.
Or overthink it.
Instead, her body took over.
Her breath slowed.
Her muscles softened.
Her mind stopped running the show.
When I gently brought her back at the end, she had the biggest smile on her face. That slightly dazed, open, glowing kind of smile that comes from somewhere deeper than thought.
And the first thing she said was:
“What just happened?”
Then:
“I honestly thought I was going to hate that… but I loved every second.”
There were tears.
There was laughter.
There was awareness.
Not because I made anything happen….
but because her body finally had space to respond.
This Isn’t About Being “Spiritual”
I use the word sound, not because it’s mystical or magical… because it’s physical.
Sound is vibration.
Vibration moves through tissue.
Through fascia.
Through the nervous system.
Your body doesn’t need belief.
It needs safety.
When your system feels safe, it knows how to rest.
When it rests, it knows how to repair.
When it repairs, clarity comes back online.
You don’t need to understand frequency.
You don’t need to talk about energy.
You don’t need to change who you are.
You just need to let your body experience something before your mind decides what it is.
I Don’t Push This Work Onto Anyone
One thing I deeply value in my friendships, and in my work, is that I don’t push my beliefs, language, or worldview onto anyone.
I don’t try to convince.
I don’t preach.
I don’t persuade with force.
If someone wants to talk about deeper things, I’m here.
If they don’t, that’s okay too.
Sound meets you where you are.
You bring your own meaning.
Your own language.
Your own truth.
I’m not here to tell you what to believe.
I’m here to create a space where your system can remember.
You Already Have Everything You Need
You don’t come to me to be fixed.
You come to be held.
You’re not broken.
You’re not missing anything.
Sometimes you’re just tired.
Sometimes you’re holding too much.
Sometimes your nervous system hasn’t felt safe enough to rest in a long time.
Sound doesn’t do the work for you.
It creates the conditions for you to do the work.
And when you’re ready
your own Pandora’s box opens in the gentlest, most beautiful way.
Not because someone told you to.
But because your body finally felt ready to say yes.
